I explained to my children this morning, that you need to be self-sufficient when it comes to providing for yourself. This includes generating income into your family that is not dependent upon holding down a job. I am not saying that you should not have a job, what I am saying is that you and your family should strive to develop an income stream or better yet multiple streams of income that will sustain you in the event you lose your job. Ideally an income stream that would allow you and your family to be totally self-employed.
Another way of being self-sufficient, is to provide most or all of your food. This why I believe that owning some land is so valuable and important. The good news is, even with a small amount of land, you can provide a lot of food for your family...Just like this one.
