Liberty University...Driving Students Into Debt
Well surprise, surprise Liberty University students topped
the list of federal financial aid for schools in Virginia. Why would a
supposed Christian university endorse, promote and allow its students
and/or the students parents to be in bondage to a secular lender?
Answer: Whether they realize it or not, it is so they can make more money to build their empire. The report (found here) states: "Liberty University students received approximately $445 million in federal financial aid money last fiscal year, according to U.S. Department of Education data, making LU the top recipient in Virginia." The article stated this about Robert Rizt, Liberty Universities executive director of financial aid: "For Ritz
— a financial aid veteran who got his start at a small Bible college —
Liberty’s use of federal financial aid does not run counter to the
university’s conservative values. Liberty does not receive the federal
money directly, Ritz said, but through students, who use it to pay for tuition, room and board and other expenses."
"Conservative Values!" Liberty University is far from conservative. While they are not wildly liberal, they are no means conservative. Since when is acting and looking like the world a conservative value for Christians? Ritz, seems to indicate by the above statement, that it would be wrong for Liberty University to receive funds direct from the government...which I would agree...but it is not wrong for their "Christian" students to receive the money and then give that money to them. What?? THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL! They (Liberty University) are still receiving the government money. My main issue with this is the fact that Liberty University (and to be fair, many other Christian schools) endorses, promotes, allows and aids students and parents to get financial aid. That means they are encouraging them to go into debt (which the bible speaks very strongly against) and not only that, but to go into debt and bondage to a secular lender, whether it be the government or a financial institution who created the money out of thin air...basically counterfeit and then expects you to pay them back...with interest. God's Word describes this type of money as "false weight and false measures" and those things are abominable to Him. If Liberty University was truly a Christian school that stood for biblical principles and the Word of God, they would stop allowing their students to go into debt to the government or a secular financial institution. Students at a Christian school should not be encouraged to take on debt for their education...which for the most part will be a waste of money, unless they pursue and obtain more than an undergraduate degree. There are several options for Liberty University to receive a fee for the education they are providing...which I have no problem with.
