National DebtAs we streak headlong toward national bankruptcy and all of its attendant destruction we have to ask ourselves, “how did we get to this place?” Of course the problem is not just something that has been caused by the present administration. The previous president and congress spent more wealth than Cresus could have dreamed. And, for several decades our nation has been increasing its debts believing that its uncontrolled spending was good for America. Now we are coming to that hard place where the impossible meets the ridiculous. Adherents from both parties are questioning, “can we really do this?” Can we spend endless trillions without destroying ourselves financially? What future are we leaving for our children with all of this debt? What has made us believe that we will be better off spending money we do not have? Is there any answer to the whole mess? Well, yes, there is an answer to the mess. However, the answer--or answers--are not likely to come forth from either political party. Both parties are dominated by people who sincerely believe that the road toward human happiness must be financed and built by central government. Both believe that humans have the answers to human problems. Both believe that we are our own best savior and both believe that redemption is up to us, no matter the cost. These are the assumptions that are driving us off a cliff. The Biblical answer starts with faith in the God of the Bible. Having believed He can save our souls it is a short step to believe He can save us from our troubles in this world. Or, perhaps if necessary, that He will provide courage and moral strength to live through what we thought impossible. This is why the writer of Psalm 46 said he would not fear, “…though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea.” We believe that nothing can wrench us from our Savior’s grip. Having nothing to fear we also believe we are not to love or worship money. Instead we are to trust God, work hard, and give to those in need. If we return to Biblical faith and lifestyles we will not need to spend ourselves into an endlessly deep hole. The answers are not found in the philosophies of man. They are found in obedience to God. For these causes I am calling for a return to Christian civilization. <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:#FF8000; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} -->Please feel free to forward these
