Public Education: Walking In The Council Of The Wicked...A Meditation On Psalm 1

Are you allowing the children
that God has given you to walk in the council of the wicked, and to stand in
the path of sinners and to sit in the seats of scoffers? If your children are
entrenched in a government school (or private school, and even most "Christian"
schools), then you are most likely doing that.
Jesus has called us into a
covenant relationship with Him and His body. We are called to be distinct, separate
and holy in a fallen world. We are commanded to separate ourselves from
worldliness and unrighteousness. After all, "what fellowship does Christ have
with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever"? (2
Corinthians 6:15) This is a rhetorical question that Paul asks, fully expecting
the answer to be "NOTHING." But yet millions of "Christians" continue to send
forth their children into the gates of an unrighteous government system.
As a homeschooling father, I do
not believe that homeschooling is perfect for the simple fact that no father or
mother is perfect in educating their children. And no home educated child is
perfect either. But it (a Christian home education) is a more righteous way to
educate and to train up your children than a government education. And not only is it a more righteous way, home educated children are academically superior to their public and private educated peers.
If we want our children to "delight
in the law of the Lord and to meditate on it day and night" then we best raise
them in a Christ centered home where the Word of God is taught and demonstrated
by us as parents. Where day in and day out we (especially as men) shepherd our
little flock and give them a righteous education.
I don't know about you, but I
want the children that the Lord has blessed me with to "be like a tree firmly
planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf
does not wither; and in whatever he or she does, he or she prospers." And one
of the ways that helps in accomplishing this is keeping our children out from
under the bondage and influence of the wicked and educating and training them
in our own homes.
If sinners/unbelievers are not going to "stand in the assembly of the
righteous" then why do we let our children stand in the assembly of the
unrighteous?? THINK ABOUT IT!
We lead our children astray by allowing them to walk in the council of
the wicked, to stand in the path of sinners and to sit in the seats of scoffers.
They are indoctrinated with the "way of the wicked" and it says "the way of the
wicked will perish." Do you want your child to perish like the wicked? Then if
you are sending your children to the government schools, private schools and most
Christian schools then honor the Lord and educate and train them in your own
home...In a righteous and God-honoring way of course.
Psalm 1
How
blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in
the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his
delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be
like a tree firmly
planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf
does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
The wicked
are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore
the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the
righteous.
For the LORD knows the way of the
righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.
