Who Is Your Allegiance To...A Country or Jesus?
Once upon a time I cherished
the opportunity to stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. I proudly
placed my right hand across my heart and recited the pledge. After all I loved
my country and what it stood for (at least the original intent of the Founding
Fathers). My home is decorated with patriotic prints and I have patriotic
shirts and ties, so why wouldn't I recite the pledge?
But as I've spiritually matured in Christ and His Word, the more I became conflicted about reciting the pledge. Why did I become conflicted? Simple:
I've also come to find that the pledge is not only unbiblical, it is unconstitutional. Check out this article from Israel Wayne about the Pledge and hear him on Kevin Swanson's Generations Radio discussing the Pledge. And consider the definitions of the words contained in the pledge. But I know I must obey and follow Christ and reciting and following the pledge is unbiblical for a disciple of Christ to do.
