Why I Will Not Be Voting This Tuesday

This coming Tuesday (November 2nd) millions of Americans will make their way to the polls to cast their vote for who their favorite candidate is and who they think will better serve their political needs. Unfortunately millions of "Christians" will be doing the same. But I will not be one of them.

Why?
  1. I serve and have my allegiance to a heavenly kingdom, not an earthly one.
  2. It is wrong for a follower of Christ to align himself with the secular state and to be "entangled with the affairs of this life."
  3. I am to have fellowship with Christ, not Belial. The secular state, politics and government and those that run it are, for the most part, of Belial.
  4. I can not vote for a man that lies, deceives, possibly cheats on his taxes, his wife and his constituents. I can not vote for a man that has hatred towards his fellow man and speaks negatively about them. What kind of person am I saying I am by voting for such a person? Hmmm???
  5. The secular state that God has ordained is to be separate and distinct from the Body of Christ/the church. God has not ordained Christians and/or the church to be involved with the secular state. We are to submit to governing authorities (unless it violates the commands of God), but we are not serve them and align ourselves with them.
  6. If I vote for a man and he wins that office and then uses that office unjustly (which he likely will), then I am in part responsible for whatever injustice and unrighteousness comes forth from him or any legislation and political act he is part of. Examples: If I vote for a man that approves war, then I am, in part, responsible for the killings of who knows how many people. If I vote for a man who votes for any bill that sends funding to something or some cause that is unrighteous or abominable, then I am, in part, responsible for the consequences.
  7. I don't have this dilemma in my district and state, but if a woman was running for office and I voted for her (whether Christian or not), then I would be partially responsible for taking her out of her God ordained role.

What God Has Separated,
Let No Christian Join

God has ordained the secular state to rule society, not I as a Christian and not us as a church are to rule the state and align ourselves with those that do. Satan has ensnared many a believer (professing believer anyway) into thinking that it is good and worthy to have political power, to use the government and legislation to advance certain causes (no matter how good they may appear to be) and to publicly put down and humiliate other people. Satan has lead people to thinking they are serving God by being involved politically and by championing certain causes and agendas. When in reality Satan has stolen them away from doing what Christ has called them to do, which is:

  • Being an intimate member of the Body of Christ
  • Using their spiritual gifts to edify others within the body
  • Displaying the character of God and the Body of Christ to the world
  • Making the manifold wisdom of God known to the world and the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places
  • Spreading the gospel
  • Making disciples
  • Caring for the widows, the orphans and the poor

Real Change Is Through The Gospel,
Not Politics

You see brothers and sisters our responsibility is to Christ and His bride, not a country, a government or a politician. Our responsibility is show that we love Christ, we love one another and we love others...even our enemies. We are to live holy and righteous lives in an unholy world. We are live quiet, peaceful lives and have favor with all men. When the world sees that, we will be far more effective at pointing out to the world what is wrong and unrighteous in society.

As long as Christians in America keep thinking that by voting for certain political views and agendas is helpful, then the church along with society will continue its downward spiral.

We don't need to vote for certain politicians or parties to overcome unrighteousness. The fact that Christians have been trying to legislate morality for over 50 years all to no effect, is proof enough it doesn't work.

We don't need to picket abortion clinics to keep women from killing their babies. What we need to do is to be totally unlike the world in all manner of living and demonstrate Christ-like love to world. We need to be spending far more time and money being the body of Christ, edifying the body of Christ and spreading the gospel than we do when it comes to politics and moral agendas. Christians can change the world, but it will never be by voting, passing legislation and aligning ourselves with the secular state. Every dollar given to a political cause is a dollar stolen from the Body of Christ. Every hour given to a political cause is an hour wasted and stolen from serving Christ, His bride and the lost.

By spreading the gospel, we can much more easily point out the unrighteousness of war, abortion, taxes and government oppression. When hearts are changed, then there will be less of a need for legislation.

Just Some Scriptures To Consider...
There Are Many More

" No one serving as a soldier entangles himself with the affairs of this life, so that he might please the one having enlisted him. "
- 2 Timothy 2:4

"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what fellowship does light have with darkness?

And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever?

And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are a temple of the living God, even as God said, "I will" dwell in them and "walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

Because of this, "come out from among them" "and be separated," says the Lord, "and do not touch the unclean thing," and I will receive you."
-2 Corinthians 6:14-17

"For our citizenship is in Heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."
-Philippians 3:20

If, then, you were raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is sitting at the right of God; mind the things above, not the things on the earth. For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.
-Colossians 3:1-3
